Hiring a marketing agency is a big decision. The right agency can transform your business. The wrong one can waste your money for months while showing you fancy reports that mean nothing. Before you sign anything, ask these five questions.

1. Can You Show Me Real Results from Past Clients?

Do not accept vague claims like "we grow businesses". Ask for specifics: which clients, what did you do, and what changed. A good agency can show you real examples, such as websites they built, ad campaigns with actual numbers, or social media pages they grew. If an agency gets defensive or only shows screenshots without context, walk away.

2. How Will You Report Progress to Me?

You should never have to wonder what your money is doing. Ask exactly what reports you will get, how often, and in what language. Monthly reports in simple words, showing inquiries, sales, website visitors, or follower growth, are what you want. If the reporting is full of jargon you cannot understand, it is probably hiding a lack of results.

3. Who Will Actually Do the Work?

Many agencies impress you with a senior team during the sales meeting, then hand your account to an inexperienced junior, or outsource everything. Ask directly who will handle your work day to day, how experienced they are, and who you can contact with questions. You deserve to know whose hands your business is in.

4. What Exactly Is Included in the Price?

Get everything in writing. How many posts per month? How many ad campaigns? Is ad spend included or separate? Are there setup fees? What happens if you want to cancel? Surprise charges and vague packages are a major red flag. A trustworthy agency gives you a clear list of deliverables before you pay anything.

5. What Promises Are You NOT Making?

This is the most revealing question of all. No honest agency can promise you the number one Google ranking in a week, or a fixed number of sales from ads. Marketing has variables nobody controls. An agency that admits what it cannot guarantee is far more trustworthy than one that promises the moon. Realistic expectations lead to real partnerships.

Take your time, ask these questions, and compare answers. The agency that answers honestly and clearly is usually the one that will treat your business with the same honesty.
